A kidney transplant is a surgical procedure in which a healthy kidney replaces the diseased kidney. This healthy kidney can come from a living donor or from a deceased organ donor.
Who can do kidney transplant?
Generally speaking, kidney transplant is the most ideal treatment for chronic renal insufficiency, so patients can consider this operation when their kidney disease progresses into end stage. However, to increase the survival rate of kidney transplant recipients, the standards to choose the candidate of kidney transplantation are quite strict. Primary glomerulonephritis, chronic nephropyelitis, cystic kidney disease, etc, are suitable to do kidney transplant. Besides, age, complications, test reports, etc, should also be considered.
